Project 2 - Design Idea Production
~Interior & Exterior Space~
My own logo that I created for this project!
Manifesto -

I am a designer, an interior designer to be specific. My name is Aya and I would like to create spaces for people who are willing to change their views and perceptions to help value others. I stand for my own beliefs and values. As I approach multiple nozzles of thinking and making, ideas become clear in my head as to where every detail supposed to mean. I believe in success, in freedom, in life and most importantly in love. I come from many parts of the world, my thinking is multicultural, my style is unique and my language defines my identity and the person I really am. Events around the world were the reason how I function in today’s society. I had a happy childhood filled with questions and explorations. Whereas now, I am a grown-up who still have many questions although fewer answers. In order to understand the world around me, I had to find an alternative route of thinking that would suit me. Exploring various mediums is one of the routes I use to help me understand. My intentions are to make this world a better place with design and making where passion comes from the surroundings in my case. I thrive on thinking outside the box a lot which accompanies me during most of my design projects. Being curious is one of the most essential attributes of a designer, and to accomplish a distinct way of thinking I had to be curious in every situation that I face, now or in the near future with my design career.
Production Statement -

My design idea is going to be split in two parts, I am willing to have a park or an exterior space combined with an interior space where they both share activities targeted at individuals in exterior and interior spaces.
Through my first project ideas, I intended on designing with multiple forms where I thrive on creating a unique outcome that will make everyone content and happy. I wish to create a perception within my work to help others comply with a different way of perceiving others and public spaces as well as domestic. In order to create a good design, a concept in my case where good design is aesthetic. An aesthetic design pleases anyone in my opinion, not only it is pleasing for the eye but also has great set of underlying principles of beauty for the community and surroundings.
My intentions are to allow myself to explore eagerly and seek different approaches to learn in diverse ways while creating a superior understanding of the world and individuals around me however, my concerns are mostly people feeling insecure when being in the space that I have created. It is overall a public space and I will not afford people walking away from my space, rather have fun and enjoy a unique space. I would like to hold a trial period or phase for people to experience the space for the first time before launching if that was one of the concerns I might face.
My primary design concept is to ask questions as I approach and understand multiple behaviours and techniques that would lead to aesthetic and environmentally friendly behaviours. In a public space, it may be difficult for an individual to accommodate a public space, while for someone else a domestic space or an office is where they feel a sense of security and at home. Becoming an icon around my field will be faced with challenges along the way where competition takes place, as for a tough competitor I am, there will be double the challenge for my opponent. The slightest win will feed into my thoughts and techniques for a stronger outcome in the future. My final design has risen to a unique outcome like every other design I produce. There will be a vision that will guide the people of many generations into what is expected of them. The production of my outcome will invent another manner of thinking and a new perception of viewing public spaces. I envision the world being a space where individuals are content and have so much to look forward to.
Therefore, I would like to present my work as a physical space no larger than an A3 square. A physical sketch of the space and activities will be done as well to accompany my design and help envision the public space I have built for the community. My goal is for anyone who tags along during the exhibition and envision the space the way I want them to envision it. I hope to generate a new perception to anyone who is willing to open up their mind and think twice about a person, a space or themselves.

Element & Verb words -
Element Words: Internal & External
Verb Words: Of Layering & To Cut
Prototype 1 Progress -

First Iteration was inspired from my Element and verb words which are Internal & Of Layering. There is a domestic and outside theme that I am going to create. Books usually have multiple layers of paper and comes in different shapes and forms. The first books I created on the left looked small in size when compared and placed with the space however, creating a smaller version seemed to fit my concept better.
I used an old magazine and a sharp stencil knife to create the desired shapes.
Prototype 2 Progress -

Second Iteration was of a seat that I made inspired by public seats around the city in Sydney. It is a unique style and could be moved and placed however the user wants. I used cardboard to make this seat and then split it into 2 parts where my Element and Verb words comes into place, External & to cut.
Prototype 3 Progress -

Third iteration was a continuation from my second iteration. I completed the seat and glued each part together and then created a layering effect as well as a divider for the space I am making. My words were External & of layering.

Prototype 4 Progress -

My last iteration was a combination of my first and third iterations. I intended on creating a stronger barrier where the internal space could be divided and create a designated atmosphere or environment for whoever is using the space. Also it could be another way of organising a space to be something unique to each individual.
Inspired work & Mind Map -

While researching for materials for my final design, some helpful feedback and ideas came from Amy. She suggested to read and browse through a book called 'Soft Shells' containing various techniques and ideas relevant for my Element and Verb words. Some ideas are listed below as photographs where the folding, layering and cutting technique comes into place. I made the layered seat previously from these ideas. During that time I made a rough mindmap where I divided it into 2 parts where Indoor and Outdoor spaces are going to be, as well as how it is going to be divided and what sorts of suggested activities each going to accommodate.
Progress Work -

Through the development of my final project, I found out a recipe on YouTube on how to make a paper dough/clay. I used this as the base for my exterior space as a form of concrete. The texture and colour were perfect as grey, where there was no need to recolour the dough. As for the interior space, I divided the space equally so it looks aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I used wood pieces I brought from the shops to try and mimic the texture of wood, using a sharp stencil knife where I carefully cut the pieces in one shape. However when placing them down on the board, the pieces were unequal but it was too late since I used liquid glue to glue the pieces down. For the exterior space I had some leftover artificial grass from project 1 that I used to make green areas on the board and set an environment feel to the exterior space.
More Progress Work -

Through the weeks of progress, I found out that I had some non-used sponges that were perfect for making trees. I used green paint and a green-like texture that had a rough feeling to it almost like grass however, the paint took long to dry out as the sponges kept absorbing the paint. At the end I used medium felt wires for the base of the trees, where I twisted and cut some pieces off the make the shape of the tree trunk. I used wood polish for the wood floor to help keep it intact and also to give it a shiny look.

As for the seats, I figured I do them differently from the third iteration, so I cut out long strands of paper and twisted them as thinly as possible, then after that I used my brush to twist the pieces of paper on which created different sizes of circles. Using hot glue for sticking the circles to create a ying-yang shaped seat was a difficult idea to construct however, it worked out pretty well. Colouring the seats with white and black paint assisted with distinguishing the seats from interior and exterior. While the seats can be moved and placed accordingly to suit individuals as separately.
Final Design -

As for my final design, the ideas around my design kept evolving rapidly in order to construct the best possible outcome. I had a bike toy and a cube toy to include in the space where it assist with generating a realistic and environmental theme. A ping pong table I made from basic materials, and it turned out to be perfect for this space as well as some brown stones from my backyard that went along the grass, where it behaved as a way of dividing the green space and creating a boundary to prevent individuals from stepping on the grass.
FINAL PROJECT ABOVE!
This A3 sketch is a type of rendering which shows the activities and how people would interact with the space.
New Upload/Update!

Here are 3 new A5 postcard sized sketches that I have done to accompany my design project and act as a rendering to highlight the design and multiple purposes of the seats -
Also, some photographs I took while focusing on the Yin-yang seats and repositioning them in different phases, which would allow the design of the seats to stand-out in my project.
